Dance display launches R1m campaign to boost tourism
11 January 2011

Makana residents passing through Church Square on Friday were treated to an impromptu dance performance as three local dance groups helped launch a new marketing campaign, the "Seven Wonders of Our World", to boost tourism in the Cacadu district.
The campaign will cost the district R1 million over a two year period and each destination was chosen for specific reasons, the district's acting director for Economic Development, Duma Magxwalisa, said.
"This project is to ensure that our district begins to be one of the [most] attractive districts in the province." Grahamstown, one of the seven wonders, had history, heritage and art.
The other six are Addo, Baviaans and the Gamtoos Valley, Jeifreys Bay and St Francis, Karoo, Sunshine Coast, and the Tsitsikamma and Langkloof.
The district will meet with the private advertising company tasked with taking the photographs, Boomtown, in the next few weeks, and decide on a marketing plan that will include publishing eye-catching photographs in magazines, on the internet and on billboards.
Gerhardt Coetzee, the photographer who took photos in Grahamstown last Friday, said of the campaign, "It's a great move. I feel like the Eastern Cape is a forgotten place, yet we have all these beautiful places in our back yard."
